Magnet Program

The Magnet Leadership Academy for Gifted Students offers an all day interdisciplinary curriculum focused on individual educational goals. Teachers work together to plan a progressive curriculum with emphasis on creativity, self-esteem, higher-level thinking, interpersonal relationships, and organizational skills. Integrated thematic units are based around in-depth social studies and science.

Our teachers offer a tailored instruction based on individual student assessments and interests. Some gifted students are able to work quickly because they grasp instructions and concepts easily. Simply increasing the workload to keep these students busy is not in their best interests. Providing a challenging learning experience involves much more! Differentiated instruction may include: acceleration of instruction, in-depth studies, a higher degree of complexity, advanced content, and real-world problem solving opportunities.

The faculty of the Williams Elementary Magnet Program excels in providing an environment in which gifted and talented students are often encouraged and motivated by other academically advanced students. Working together on interesting and exciting projects often brings out the best characteristics in children who share a passion for learning. Opportunities for in-depth exploration and application of new knowledge and skills are provided on a more regular basis than is often possible in programs that only offer a daily pullout program for gifted students. Most children find close friendships among others that have common interests and abilities.

Throughout the school year, core content standards are taught, interdisciplinary connections are established, practice through problem-solving applications is provided, and glimpses at the master's perspective are provided. The Williams Elementary Magnet Program provides a unique and challenging educational experience to ensure that gifted students develop their potentials and enhance their capabilities.
